The Gambia Police Force (GPF) and the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) have proposed to join forces to fight against cybercrime in the country.
The two bodies have recently held discussions aimed at establishing a formal partnership to strengthen the fight against cybercrime.
According to a GPF statement, the meeting took place on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the Police Headquarters Conference Hall in Banjul and brought together a technical working group from both institutions.
The police delegation was led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Malang Jarju.
Discussions focused on a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) designed to enhance cooperation in addressing cyber-related crimes and emerging digital threats.
Both institutions explored key areas of collaboration, including combating online scams, hacking incidents and other forms of cybercrime, as well as strengthening technical support and capacity-building for law enforcement officers.
The GPF says the proposed partnership reflects a shared commitment to improving cybersecurity and protecting citizens from growing threats in the digital space.
The initiative forms part of broader national efforts to enhance The Gambia’s response to cybercrime through strengthened institutional collaboration.
The police reaffirmed their commitment to working with relevant partners to promote a safer digital environment and safeguard public interests online.
