Water shortage hit Maka community in Farafenni

Residents of Maka community in Farafenni, North Bank Region are appealing to the relevant authorities to provide them with portable water, noting that the borehole in the village had developed a technical problem and Swe Gam Company Limited is demanding D564,750.00 for repairing it.

Speaking to The Voice newspaper in Maka, Farafenni, Alhaji Modou Touray said the breakdown of the only borehole in the village has affected people’s livelihood. Now people travel daily on long distances from Maka to Farafeni and border villages in Senegal to fetch water for domestic and other household use.

The representative of the Alkalo, Muhammed Touray, and Jaily Touray women leaders all described the situation as challenging as the community is being without water for some days now.

They are strongly appealing to the government to come to their aid, to alleviate the suffering. They noted that the absence of clean drinking water can have negative effects on the health of the population of the community.

Many comments generated from the residents said the maintenance cost submitted by Swe Gam Company Limited is high and they do not have the means to pay the amount.
