Medina United and Fortune FC will take the race for the 2025/26 GFF First Division League title to the final day of the season after both sides recorded crucial victories in the penultimate round of matches played on Wednesday.
League leaders Medina United moved closer to a historic maiden league title in their debut top-flight campaign with a 2-1 victory over Gambia Dutch Lions at the Live Your Dreams Academy Field in Basori.
Adama Kanteh opened the scoring for Medina in the 26th minute before Cherno Jallow equalised for the Dutch Lions 10 minutes later. However, leading scorer Paul Colley netted the winner in the 62nd minute to secure all three points for the league leaders.
The result leaves Medina on 51 points, one point ahead of second-placed Fortune FC, who kept their title hopes alive with a hard-fought 1-0 win over defending champions Real de Banjul at the Box Bar Mini Stadium in Brikama.
Muhammed Jallow scored the decisive goal early in the match, while Fortune survived a second-half scare after Salifu Colley missed a penalty that could have doubled their advantage.
At the Ousman Saho Football Field in Old Yundum, Samger strengthened their survival hopes with a 2-1 victory over Bombada FC.
Babucarr Sarr opened the scoring before Haruna Bojang doubled the advantage with an impressive individual effort. Bombada goalkeeper Ebrima Sonko reduced the deficit with a direct free-kick, but Samger held on for victory, ending Bombada’s mathematical chances of winning the title.
Elsewhere, Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) maintained their push for a top-three finish with a convincing 4-0 win over Team Rhino in Bakau.
Mamadi Chorr scored a hat-trick, while Ansumana Jawara added the fourth goal as GPA moved to 47 points in third place.
Hart FC also recorded a 3-1 victory over Brikama United at the Jarra Soma Mini Stadium. Sulayman Manjang, Sulayman Ceesay and Lamin Jallow were on target for Hart, while Bubacarr Sallah scored Brikama United’s lone goal.
With one round of matches remaining, Medina United lead the standings on 51 points, followed by Fortune FC on 50 and GPA on 47.
At the opposite end of the table, Gambia Dutch Lions, Hawks, Falcons FC, Samger, Greater Tomorrow, Steve Biko and TMT FC remain embroiled in a battle to avoid relegation as the season approaches its conclusion.
The title and relegation battles will be decided on the final day of the 2025/26 GFF First Division campaign.
