Western-one has higher Coronavirus cases in the country, says MOH

The Ministry of Health has announced that Western 1 Health Region has a disproportionately higher number of cases than all the health regions and launched a house-to-house vaccination campaign for Kombos and West Coast Region in a bid to ensure everyone is vaccinated against the coronavirus.

“As of 14th December 2021, Data from WHO novel coronavirus dashboard and European CDC situation report Western 1 Health Region has a disproportionately higher number of cases than all the health regions. Below are the age-sex distribution and the Epi-curve of confirmed cases by date of sample collection, respectively (See Fig. 2 and 3). This is the 408th national situation report since the confirmation of the first case of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in The Gambia, on the 16th March 2020,” the Ministry stated. 

“No new COVID-19 related deaths registered, bringing the total to 342 (Crude Case-Fatality Ratio, 3.4%). No new cases were registered (Cumulative cases 10,045) The test positivity rate is 0.0% (0/191), NPHL –181 (0 positives) and MRCG – 10 (0 Positives)

 One (1) case is currently on oxygen therapy. Two (2) cases were discharged after at least 10 days from the day they tested positive but evaded institutional isolation and zero (0) from the COVID-19 treatment centre,” the Ministry added in the statement. 

Meanwhile, the ministry also continued: “This is the 407th national situation report since the confirmation of the first case of the coronavirus disease. (COVID-19) in The Gambia, on the 16th March 2020. No new COVID-19 related death was registered, bringing the total to 342 (Crude Case-Fatality Ratio, 3.4%). 11 new cases were registered (Cumulative cases 10,045) Two (2), 3, 5, and 1 case were registered on the 8th 9th 10th and 11th. The test positivity rate is 0.66% (11/1657), NPHL –1594 (11 positives), and MRCG – 63 (0 Positives)

As of 9th December 2021, the following number of people have been vaccinated with: Proportion of target population fully vaccinated (2 doses of AZ/Sinopharm OR 1 dose of

 J&J): 14.6%. The proportion of the target population that received at least one Covid-19 vaccine dose. Based on final MoH population projections for 2021 – 2,438,899). The proportion of the total population fully vaccinated.”
