Fire claims life of teen boy in Jalabang

A blazing fire has killed a teen boy, Kawsu Kassama, injured four people and damaged property in Jalabang, the nation’s disaster agency has said.

The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) has sent its condolences to the affected families as regard to this sad incident.

A statement from the NDMA office states that “It is with great sadness that the NDMA learned through our regional office in WCR that there was a fire outbreak today. The unfortunate event occurred at 14:45 on Tuesday, August 2, 2021. The fire was prompted by a spark which caught onto petrol being sold nearby.

“It is understood that a local petrol dealer operating from a household had a petrol tanker in the premises to offload fuel and after the spark, the inferno that ensued became uncontrollable. The blaze has resulted in damages to properties, caused injuries and even a fatality. Thus far, four vehicles were scorched, four individuals have sustained injuries and a teenager named Kawsu Kassama lost his life.”

“The entire staff and management at NDMA would like to convey our deepest condolences to the Kassama family. May Allah grant him Jannatul-Firdaus,” the statement stated.

Meanwhile, Brikama Area Council where the village is under its watch also sent it sympathy to the victims’ families. It said in a statement: “Our condolence and thoughts with the deceased and victims of the fire outbreak. The Management wish to sincerely express its sincere condolence to the Family of the teenager (Kawsu Kassama) who died in the inferno.

“Furthermore, our thoughts and prayers are with the injured victims for a speedy and total recovery. Once again, we want to implore on businesses and individuals dealing in fuel to strictly adhere to safety measures to avoid substantial risk and damage to lives and properties.”
