Dr Bai Biram Jagne, leader and secretary general of All People’s Party (APP) has said The Gambia is still in Neo- colonialism.
Speaking at a news conference, he said: “Colonial education system, education and laws that are still in our books to govern us should be eradicated.” He said The Gambia is still dependent on people who subjected us to their laws by force.
“Africans are not defeated by (God) but defeated by psychological warfare which is still on and defeats our ancestors. Begging is a political prostitution if we don’t leave it, we will not have our self-esteem. Debt is a cycle that is embedded in our country. Those banks don’t give loans like that they are based on conditions,” he said.
According to him, every Gambian is concern about food and also security is very important. Rape, Robbery is rampant since the past months, adding “drugs are coming to The Gambia and that alone is illegal but government fails to address the situation.
“When you talk about security it involves three things – the border, food security and individual security. The president addressed the current situation of the country at a late stage and too little. We believe government should make emergency funding to the police to increase their resource in-terms of the security to be tighter,” he added.
He said the domestic growth has been fallen since 1994 and is worsen three times in the last five years, saying “our gross domestic is 1.4 billion US dollars compared to other countries, we have the lowest gross domestic products.”
“We need to change attitudes and our system, orient our mentality and that is post-colonial traumatic stress disorder is a disease tantamount to traumatic stress that is typically seen in US, Africa is traumatize, he said.
Meanwhile, he said APP will make sure that local languages are the first priority because speaking your language gives you self-esteem.
“The government should have bought the groundnut to make more money and stop buying barrels of groundnut outside. Poverty, nepotism and corruption are increasing at fast rate but APP has come to eradicate that illness.
We will foster freedom on religion everyone has the rights to be free as a democratic country. We need a president who is not corrupt but reliable and I challenge any government who will come in power to give half of his salary to the Gambians. Gambians should give chance to APP because we trying to foster relationships with our African regions,” he added.
