Police have apprehended a man after he was allegedly found with illicit drugs. The suspect, Almameh Camara, who is also known as Decor Jawo or Santana is being detained by the Personnel of the Police Intervention Unit.

Earlier this year, police launched a clampdown on criminal activities including crime and contraband drugs in the country, which saw hundreds of people arrested and prosecuted. But the new operation has now being reimbursed by President Adama Barrow, who vowed to defeat criminals in the country, after he asked the national guard of the Gambia Army to be on the standby to fight criminal activities.

Meanwhile, the police said in a statement that “Personnel of the Police Intervention Unit Delta Platoon arrested Almameh Camara also known as Decor Jawo or Santana. The suspect is a notorious drug dealer who runs a gang of youngsters known for their engagement in criminal activities such as stealing, illicit substance abuse, and robbery within the community of New Yundum and surroundings.”

“Evidence of suspected drug was found in his possession. Ghettos such as Sateba Street Camp, New Site Street Camp or Badal, Alqaeda Junction all in New Yundum will be dismantled,” the statement said.

Police also urged members of the public to volunteer information about criminal gangs causing nuisance within their communities.
