Ministry of Finance reacts to National Assembly’s report

The Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs yesterday reacted to the National Assembly’s report which called off Monday sitting at the National Assembly because of Minister of Finance absent at the ongoing extraordinary session.

The Lawmakers were expected to decide the fate of the country on the proposed extension of State of Public Health Emergency. But the house however rejected government’s motion seeking extra 45 days of the public health emergency to help prevent further spread of coronavirus.

The Gambia’s coronavirus case currently stands at 24 cases with 9 recoveries and 1 death.
“We wish to clarify that such reports are entirely false. The cancellation of the tabling of the Revised Budget took place at the direction of the National Assembly,” the Ministry’s statement states.

“The attention of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs has been drawn to reports online that the National Assembly canceled its planned Monday session because “the Minister of Finance failed to show up.”

“The Ministry of Finance, under the leadership of Honorable Mambury Njie, has always accorded the highest degree of respect to the august body. The Ministry shows up anytime the parliament calls; sometimes, at a day’s notice,” the statement added.
