One Sulayman Ceesay was Wednesday arraigned before the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.
The case was heard before presiding Magistrate F.J. Camara.
According to the charge, Ceesay was found on 12 June 2026 at Kanifing in possession of a vehicle tyre with a wheel reasonably suspected to have been stolen.
Prosecutors alleged that he failed to give a satisfactory account of how he came into possession of the item, contrary to Section 276 of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025.
When the charge was read and explained to him in English, the accused indicated that he understood it and admitted the allegation. The court, however, entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf.
Appearing for the prosecution on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Cadet Norres Mendy applied for an adjournment to enable the prosecution to produce the exhibits at the next hearing.
Magistrate Camara granted the application and admitted the accused to bail in the sum of D25,000.
Alternatively, the accused is required to provide one Gambian surety who must deposit a valid national identity card with the court registrar and swear an affidavit of means.
The court ordered that the surety would guarantee the attendance of the accused throughout the proceedings and warned that the surety would be held responsible should the accused abscond.
The case was adjourned until 22 June 2026 for continuation.
