Am’Harit holds Food Fair to celebrate Gambian Cuisine

Taking into consideration the achievement of the Gambia Chefs at the recently held West African Food Festival (WAFFEST) in Lagos, Nigeria, where Chef Bojang-led team declared winner of the Jollof Competition, Am’Harit Catering Service, Gambia, on Saturday, held an Am’Harit Food Fair to celebrate the Gambian cuisine.

The Food Fair was organized and held at the Am’Harit Catering Service at Pipeline Mosque Junction along Kairaba Avenue and was attended by a large crowd of people which included officials of the Ministry of Health, FSQA, NaNA, GIEPA, GCCI, KMC, customers of Am’Harit Catering Service and lovers of food and drinks among others.

The management of Am’Harit Catering Service declared food and drinks to be served free of charge to every attendee of the food fair with lots of takeaway food packages.

Declaring open the event, Gibril Baldeh, the proprietor of Am’Harit welcomed everyone and described the event as a special one to celebrate the Gambian cuisine.

He said Am’Harit means ‘get a friend,’ and this is the first Food Fair event it will hold to celebrate “authentic Gambian cuisine at a time when the Gambia representatives to the WAFFEST competition in Nigeria were crowned as champion winning Jollof Competition at the festival.”

Adding that this victory in the competition prompted Am’Haritto organize the Am’Harit Food Fair to celebrate the winners and Gambian Cuisine.

“If Gambian chefs can go to another country to contest in a cuisine competition and come back as the champion, we have all the reason to celebrate our cuisine locally, which is one of the reasons we organized this fair” he stated.

He, therefore, used the moment to thank the lead chef, Bojang, who had led the Gambian contingent to the event. 

However, he outlined the achievements of Am’Harit Catering Service which include being the pioneer in bringing Gambian dishes online and bring it to the doorstep of every customer who places an order, 

Among their dishes include ebeh, domoda, fufu, cowfoot soup, cherreh, mbahal, yassa and lots more.

Ousman Kebbeh, a retired tourism guru applauded the management of Am’Harit Catering Service for taking a bold step to organize the Am’Harit Food Fair to celebrate Gambian Cuisine taking into consideration the victorious performance of Gambian Chef at the West African Food Festival held in Lagos, Nigeria.

Mr. Njundu Barry of GiEPA, and Dembo Jobarteh among others made speeches at the fair, while the event was punctuated with food and drinks, entertainment, and so on.
