President renewed his promise of electrifying Gambia communities before 2026

The president of the Gambia has renewed his promise of providing electricity to every community in The Gambia before 2026, he emphasised this at the meeting held in Kolibantang village in Upper River Region (URR) during the ongoing meet the people tour.

President Adama Barrow who was speaking at a joint meeting of Wulli East, West, and Sandou Constituencies held in Kolinbantang, said there are too much of talks about the bridge but let the drivers of Basse go to Farafenni and study how drivers use to cross the Senegambia Bridge so that on their return they will know how they will be crossing the Basse Bridge.

Meanwhile, Ebrima Sillah, Honourable Minister of Works and Infrastructure noted that Basse Manneh Kunda to Gambiasarra and Dampha Kunda to Chamoi roads are part of their plans and roads to construct.

Honourable Sillah as well talked about other agreements made on road construction between China and The Gambia which he said in the agreement and modalities of the usage of the bridge and the transfer of it to the Gambian government.

Yerro Camara, a youth leader from Sandou village said in the area it is only two villages that are having electricity while it is a burden to other villages without electricity because they are suffering a lot.

He, therefore, appealed to President Barrow and his government to help them to have electricity to make their life easy, while he added that the youths of the URR need training centers where they can acquire skills.

Among other people at the meeting, Pa Sainey Barrow chairman of the community, Demba Jallow, a livestock farmer representative urged the government to provide vehicles for the police stations in the areas for emergency purposes.

Mbemba Jabbie said the Gambia is a country where 75% of the population depends on agriculture he, therefore, begged the government to provide them with farming equipment.

Honourable Ebrima Jaiteh, the MP of Sandou complained about the feeder roads.

Governor Samba Bah of the Upper River Region urged everyone to continue to maintain peace, saying a country cannot develop without peace.

Honourable Musa Drammeh, the Minister of Fisheries urged the people of the area to take care of the forest in URR to avoid fire and cutting down of trees without replacement.

In a similar meeting held in Fulladu village in Central River Region, President Adama Barrow said every village in Fulladu District will have electricity before 2026 saying the project has started.

The President told the people of Fulladu that his government has a lot of projects on the pipeline which are not going to be long-awaited to start.

The installation of electric poles, he said, has already started, “we are not here for a joke when day breaks I have nothing in hand except the Gambians issue, let those talking continue with their noise as we continue on our work,” he said.
