Over 400 households affected by flood in Bundung – Hon Jammeh

Honourable Sulayman Jammeh, the National Assembly member for Bundung Constituency, on Tuesday, confirmed to The Voice that over four hundred households got affected by the flood in the Bundung constituency.

In an interview with this medium, Honourable Jammeh said most of the families affected by the flood are currently suffering they need immediate response and support.

He appealed to the government and Kanifing Municipal Council to act fast to respond to the affected people due to their condition as they have lost valuable items including clothes, appliances, and furniture among others

Honourable Jammeh further appealed to the Council and government through the National Disaster Management to provide waterways for them in the constituency and also a big canal.

He explained that some flood victims have recovered somehow by trying to clean their houses, but certain homes are still flooded with water.

Adding that “in terms of crisis, disaster or emergencies, you need to think fast and come up with a short-term solution. So, this is why we were able to at least secure a water pump so we can pump out the water because we still have stagnant water inside the houses within the Bundung area.”

However, he highlighted that when such happened, there should be some kind of community engagement it is not when a disaster happened, that the government will come and start operations because certain floods can be mitigated at a community level.

“When I discussed with the community, what they told me was that the compounds are high against the street. Meaning the compounds are down because of the erosion of sand. So, what is needed there is to create the idea to level the ground and I think that is possible. I am the national assembly member but I am going to work closely with the councilors for the general interest of the people of Bundung that is the idea,” he promised.
