Gambia’s and African 100m champion, Gina Bass finished her Commonwealth Games participation with fifth position during the 200m final in Birmingham, England on Saturday.
The 27-year-old sprinter emerged 5th position during the final with a timing of 23:13 seconds.
The Gambian track queen qualified to the final after finishing 3rd position in the semifinal.
The Toubakouta-born Olympian missed out on winning either a bronze, silver or gold medal in the just concluded Commonwealth Games.
Meanwhile, Gina Bass finished 2nd position during the heats last Tuesday, with a timing of 22.87 seconds.
The Police officer-cum-athlete will now turn her attention to the Islamic Games in Turkey, which starts today, on Tuesday, 9th August 2022.
Earlier, on Thursday, other Gambian athletes including the captain Adama Jammeh, Alieu Joof and Sengan Jobe all missed out in the 200m semifinal spot.
The trio couldn’t make it through after they failed in their respective timing during their heats.
Elsewhere, The Gambia Beach Volleyball Team lost 2-1 to the host England at the quarterfinals stage played on Friday.
England won the first and the third and deciding set, while Gambia won only the second set.
The Gambia qualified to the quarterfinals after beating Sri Lanka and Canada in two of their Pool A games.
In another development, The Gambia’s relay men team have qualified to the 4×100m relay final at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
The Gambian team which comprises of Adama Jammeh, Ebrahima Camara, Shengan Jobe and Alieu Joof respectively, finished 4th in the race with a timing of 33:77 seconds, but will now take the place of Ghana in the final that finished 3rd, following a technical violation by the Ghanaian team, resulting in their disqualification.
Meanwhile, Joduka Faye Njie won the maiden silver medal for the country in the final of men’s 73kg.
