40-year-old man detained at Dimbaya over possession of suspected cannabis

The Drug Law Enforcement officers have detained a Senegalese man, Ousainou Jammeh [Diame], 40, at Dimbaya village in West Coast Region for alleged possession of six big bundles of suspected cannabis.

The Drug Law Enforcement Agency reported that a “40 years old Ousainou Jammeh, Senegalese National resident of Selleti was apprehended by DLEAG’s Banjul field office on the 2 April 2022 around 08:40 AM onwards.

“He was taken into custody at Dimbaya in the West Coast Region with six (6) big bundles of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in an empty bag of rice. The means of conveyance was a violet motorcycle without any registration number plate.”

The agency added: “In a similar but separate development, DLEAG’s Basse field office nabbed an adult male Gambian with some quantities of suspected cannabis sativa in Nafugan, Upper River Region. Demba Baldeh was clutched on the 3rd April 2022 around 15:40 GMT onwards with the said suspected prohibited drugs wrapped in a cement paper and concealed in the roof of his house. They are both currently in custody as further investigations continue.”

“A 38 years old Alagie Senghore and 29 years old Binta Jarju were apprehended on the 1st April 2022 around 11:12 hours GMT onwards with five (5) big bundles, eight (parcels and eighty-eight (88) wraps of suspected cannabis sativa. Seized at Abuko, the said suspected prohibited drugs were wrapped with brown papers and white papers and concealed in an empty bag of rice.”

The Drug Law Enforcement Agency has continued its clampdown on illegal drugs and drug crimes in the country that resulted in the arrest of hundreds of both Gambians and non-Gambians.
