Honourable Hamat Bah has warned electorates against voting for the independent candidates in the upcoming parliamentary elections due in April.

Speaking at a campaign gathering held in Kerr Ardo, Baddibu, as Gambians will head to the polls on 9 April to elect their new National Assembly members for another five years, Honourable Hamat Bah, Minister of Tourism and Culture warned electorates against voting for the independent candidates, describing them as nation destroyers.

“If you (the electorates) give your votes to the independent candidates, then you are destroying. Be careful of the independent candidates, they are only good at destroying the country. They are more dangerous than the yellows, because we know the intention of the yellows and we know how to deal with them,” he told a cheering political gathering.

“Those people masking behind the banner of independent, if they come to you, tell them the truth that they should go and withdraw their candidature from the Independent Electoral Commission. If they do, we are willing to discuss with them, but if they insist, then do not vote for them,” he added.

He continued, “Be careful of them (independent), Adama Barrow didn’t back anyone of them. (And) anyone who claims to be backed by Barrow is not telling the truth. And anyone we heard saying Adama Barrow is backing him or her, we will take a legal action against such.”

He urged the electorates in Lower Baddibu to massively vote for Alhagie Jawara who is seeking re-election to the National Assembly.

According to him, Jawara is an honest person who loves the country and President Barrow at heart, and the lawmaker is gold for the people of Lower Baddibu.

“He is an honest person who loves the country and President Barrow at heart and he is gold for you, so hold him strong and support him,” Bah said.
