GPF moves top of Women’s League, Red Scorpions game postponed

The Women’s League defending champions, Gambia Police Force (GPF) has temporarily moved top of the league standing after Red Scorpions have their game against Abuko United suspended on Saturday.

The Gambia Police Force women side moved top of the league standings after defeating City Girls 1-0 during their week-7 fixture played at the Lives Your Dreams Sports Academy in Basori on Friday.

Fatou Darboe scored the game’s only goal in the 52 minutes of the second half to give her side the Police all the three points, while the City Girls searched for an equalizer proved futile.

This is the fifth win of the season for the Gambia Police Force, while City Girls conceded their first loss of the season.

The reigning league champions, GPF overall collected five wins, one draw and one loss in seven games, while City Girls registered two wins, three draws and one defeat after six games.

The Police side temporarily moved top of the league on 16 points, one point above Red Scorpions who have two game-in-hands, while City Girls sit 4th position on 9 points.

Elsewhere, Berewuleng were held to a goalless draw by struggling side Immigration in the earlier game played at Basori on Saturday.

The Brikama-based team, Berewuleng came to the game looking to collect the maximum point to close the game, while Immigration were also looking to collect the maximum point and improve from their struggles.

Berewuleng now collected their third draw of the season likewise Immigration as well.

Berewuleng overall collected three wins, three draws and one defeat after seven games, while Immigration conceded four defeats, three draws and no win yet after seven games.

Berewuleng sit 3rd position on 12 points, while Immigration occupied second-from-bottom-(7th)-position on 3 points.

Meanwhile, Red Scorpions and Abuko United game which was scheduled on Saturday, was postponed due to the demise of the mother of three Abuko United players in the name of Mrs. Bobo Sambou, following a fatal accident which occurred in Faraba on Friday, when the vehicle she was travelling in collided with a truck claiming several lives.

The players are Gambia international goalkeeper Matty Manga, Delhine Mange and Marie Manga.

At the time of going to press yesterday, Sunday, Brikama United female side were taking on the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) at the Late Ousman Saho field in Old Yundum.
