Honorable Baba Galleh Jallow, National Assembly member for Sanimentreng constituency, has appealed to the Ministry of Interior to support police men and women stationed in his constituency to help tackle growing insecurity in the area.

Speaking at the National Assembly, MP Jallow lamented about the growing insecurity in his constituency due to lacks of mobility for police officers. Adding that, the only Police Intervention Unit station in Brufut lacks enough vehicles to keep security within the district.

“Coming to insecurity, we have a Police Intervention Unit in Brufut taking care of the whole Kombos [and] this unit only intervenes when things are going tough. But it’s been unfortunate I have been advocating for two years now,” he told lawmakers at the national assembly chambers in Banjul.

The Honorable disclosed thattThis Police Intervention Unit camp has no vehicle to do their job. “The last time an incident happened at Tanji before this unit reached Tanji the situation has gone out of hand, as many people lost their belongings. The same thing happened at Sanyang to an extent that they burnt the police station. And the Ministry responsible, ministry of Interior should make sure this unit gets vehicles for patrolling.”

“There is a forest between Madiana and Brufut, myself was a victim. So, all sorts of incidents are happening there and I am appealing to the Ministry of Interior to please consider helping this police unit with a vehicle so that they will do their job correctly,” he stated.

Meanwhile, he also lamented about the growing road accidents in the country, and urged the Ministry of Interior to conduct a thorough research, adding that “I don’t know whether the accidents are caused by drink and drive.”
