Ministry of Health says 9 people test positive for coronavirus

The ministry of health has said 9 people tested positive for coronavirus in two days, adding five people were discharged from treatment centres.

“This is the 411th national situation report since the confirmation of the first case of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in The Gambia, on the 16th March 2020. No new COVID-19 related death registered, bringing the total to 342 (Crude Case-Fatality Ratio, 3.39%) Nine (9) new cases were registered (Cumulative cases 10,087,” the ministry said.

“Three (3), and 6 cases were reported on the 19th and 20th respectively. The test positivity rate is 0.24% (9/379), NPHL – 364 (8 positives) and MRCG – 15 (1 Positives). No case is currently on oxygen therapy.

“Five (5) cases were discharged after at least 10 days from the day they tested positive but evaded institutional isolation and zero (0) from COVID-19 treatment centres. As of 19th December 2021, the following number of people have been vaccinated with: Johnson & Johnson: Only 1 dose: 199,920. Sinopharm: Dose 1: 4,500 Dose 2: 3,315. AstraZeneca:  Dose 1: 40,661 Dose 2: 27,880,” the Ministry report stated.

“No new COVID-19-related death registered, bringing the total to 342 (Crude Case-Fatality Ratio, 3.39%). Twenty-seven (27) new cases were registered (Cumulative cases 10,078) Six (6),12 and 9 cases were reported on the 16th, 17th and 18th respectively. The test positivity rate is 2.77% (27/976), NPHL – 913 (24 positives) and MRCG – 63 (3 Positives). No case is currently on oxygen therapy. Thirty-six (36) cases were discharged after at least 10 days from the day they tested positive but evaded institutional isolation and zero (0) from COVID-19 treatment centres,” the statement noted.

“TARGET POPULATION (based on microplanning estimates – 1,564,214). Proportion of target population fully vaccinated (2 doses of AZ/Sinopharm or 1 dose of J&J): 14.8%. Proportion of target population that received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose (AZ or J&J OR Sinopharm): 15.7%.

“TOTAL POPULATION (Based on final MoH population projections for 2021 – 2,438,899). Proportion of total population fully vaccinated (2 doses of AZ/Sinopharm or 1 dose of J&J): 9.5%. Proportion of total population that received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose (AZ or J&J or Sinopharm): 10.0%,” the report concluded
