The Gambia government has been urged to help in tracing a missing migrant boat since November 2021 which is believed to have departed from Gunjur for Europe.

Mustapha Jatta, a relative of one of those on board the boat appealed to the Barrow government to help engage other government in a bid to trace the boat.

“We cannot hold the government responsible for this though they have a part to play but they are not solely responsible for this. But we want their help. We want the government to engage the Mauritanian and Moroccan governments about the boat,” he said.

He added: “The boy is my cousin; our fathers share the same mother and father but I live at Busumbala while he lives at Kubariko behind the airport.”

In his explanation, “the boy used to stay with his boss in Manduar because he’s an apprentice learning how to drive a vehicle. Though, time to time he did abandon home for two to three days as he used to stay with his boss at Manduar.”

“But this time he went like a week they didn’t see him and they called to inform me that the boy has left the compound for two weeks now and no one knows his whereabouts. Immediately I called his number but his number was not going through that was the time we got to know that he has left with one of his friends he works with on this journey,” he narrated.

Ebrima Drammeh, said: “we are making efforts to gather relevant updates about this particular boat but as of now there is no relevant information about the boat. What we can say as of now is that the boat is still missing in the ocean.”
