NPP’s Ahmed Gitteh claims UDP lost December election due to reaction toward people during voter registration

Ahmed Gitteh, one of the President Adama Barrow’s staunch supporters has lashed out at opposition supporters of United Democratic Party and claimed that the party lost the presidential election to Barrow due to their unpleasant reactions toward people during the voter registration period.

Mr Gitteh also said more than hundred prominent supporters of the United Democratic Party covertly pledged to vote for President-elect Barrow a day to the election.

“I have been active in politics since 2017 because the party I backed to rule was the party I campaigned for.

“But along the way, you have many people supporting United Democratic Party and Gambia Democratic Congress and those supporting Halifa Salla and his party, but UDP’s approach towards this election scared many people in this country. And there are many reasons for their failure to win the election, but there is one major reason, which is their attitude towards people during the registration period because they are on record on the social media. And people saw that and realize and denied them votes,” Gitteh said.

“Because we know many people are supporting Halifa Sallah decided not to vote for him in this election to vote for Barrow because of UDP and there are many people who are supporting Mamma Kandeh also decided not to vote for him in this election but voted for Barrow because of UDP (we know this) because people used to come to us and tell us,” he added.

“I swear by God’s name on Friday before the election very prominent young people from the UDP and some are supporters of BB Darbo came and met me and Barrow’s nephew and they were up to 150 people, they told us that we campaigned for UDP but as young people we are not comfortable to vote for UDP,” he said and swore.
