‘NRP is ready for alliance with any political party ahead of 2021 presidential election’ – Pateh Baldeh

By Mani Kumba

The Spokesman for National Reconciliation Party (NRP) has said his party’s door is open for negotiation for alliance with any political party ahead of the 2021 presidential election.

Pateh Baldeh said it is too early to decide whether NRP will contest as a party in the upcoming presidential election or to form alliance with other political parties.

He expressed that “there is going to be a congress before the presidential election. So, the delegates at the congress will decide what NRP will do. We are real democrats, we do nothing on our own,” he said.

When asked about speculation that NRP will form an alliance with the National People’s Party (NPP) in the forthcoming presidential election, he replied that Gambians should stop jealousy.

“Why should people see two parties or organizations working together and become jealous just to bring disorder among them,” he rhetorically.
Mr Baldeh therefore advised Gambians to stop causing conflict-ridden between close friends just for them to fall apart.

Speaking further, he called on all political leaders and their supporters to focus on their political activities and stop criticizing their fellow politicians because they are united.
However, he said “NRP is free to form alliance with NPP. I am telling you that NRP is free to join NPP and any other political party for either forming coalition or any other agreement.”

He cited 2016 coalition as example saying “if, at, anytime NPP consults his party formally regarding forming a coalition in the next presidential election NRP is ready to respond positively.
“We are ready to work with NPP and other parties that is ready to work with us.”
