The public has been warned against hate speech as the country heads toward the presidential poll in December, as presidential campaign kicked off on Monday.

Lamin Kambi, resident of Nema Alkali urged Gambians to politicised within the laws of the country, adding that only one of the six candidates will emerge victorious in the December presidential election.

“I call on my fellow youth to vote wisely and should not allow themselves to be carried away by any politician. Your vote is your voice so does not allow people to decide for you instead you should decide for yourself,” he said.

“These politicians are following only their interest not the interest of the people. People are suffering for 56years especially students and youth who are mostly neglected, our education system needs change, agriculture needs development and most importantly create employment opportunities for the youth,” he added.

Amie Binta Sarr, from Sukuta also said: “The Gambia is a peaceful country and therefore people should maintain the culture of peace during and after election.”

“If your party loses or wins accept it in good faith and work hand in hand with party that wins to develop the country. The only thing we are interested in is the development and we cannot achieve that without harmony, we should put the Gambia first, throw our tribal differences, and love one another. It is only that that can give us the development that we yearning for,” she added.

Buba Cham, a resident of Sukuta urged the IEC to conduct a free and fair elections in order to avoid dispute in the country.

“My expectations after the elections are to see a better Gambia, zero corruption, and continuation of peace that we all share. The country is yet to host a historic election after 22 years of dictatorship,” he said.

Citizens and politicians should be mindful of social media and the words they share just to seek attention, he said.
