Honorable Halifa Sallah, the presidential candidate of People’s Democratic Organisation for Independent and Socialism (PDOIS) has been selling his campaign messages to the electorates as the presidential campaign for December polls kicked off on Monday.
Speaking at Latrikunda German, the Serrekunda lawmaker, said: “What is the difference between us and the western countries, is the type of leadership because they are not more intelligent than us and we can have leadership that is better than theirs?
“So, if you have a ward development treasury and every year, they look at what they want to develop and if they have enough resources, they develop it but if they don’t have enough there is another place where the money can come from to support them.”
“As far as the country has a coffer which has 23,000 million plus other additional resources and as far that is what is brought to the coffer, we should ensure and distribute what should go to the regions because that coffer is meant to help Gambians and people are at the wards and villages. So, if your community comes and says this is what we want to do but this is what is holding us back then we can take some from the coffer and support that community. If this is how The Gambia was governed for the past 56 years then tell me how your communities and wards will look like today?” he added.
“That’s what we say, that’s what system change is and that’s what PDOIS is telling you to listen to. We haven’t heard any party or independent candidate who faced you and showed you how we want to eradicate poverty in your regions. And if they come to you this is what you should ask them. If what PDOIS is saying is what they are repeating then you tell them to go and join PDOIS,” he continued
Meanwhile, he urged everyone to be careful about voting carelessly, as electorates should be mindful of voting based on religion, place of birth and so on noting that if you cast your vote based on carelessness then you will obviously get a government of carefree. And a carefree government is for you to be born in poverty, grow up in poverty and die in poverty.
So, what we are telling you is very clear, there is no ambiguity in it, anything that happens again is of carefree attitude. Before we used to say people are scared and ignorant but now it is carefree because all these have been said by us
