The case involving former minister Abba Sanyang and six others was on Tuesday adjourned by the Banjul High Court presided over by Justice Ebrima Jaiteh following an application by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The DPP informed the court that the State Counsel handling the matter was currently indisposed following the incident that occurred in court last week.
He further told the court that arrangements have been made for another State Counsel to be adequately briefed to take over conduct of the case.
Counsel for the first accused person opposed the application, arguing that the matter was previously adjourned due to the conduct of Counsel Jorbateh, which required consultations involving the DPP.
However, Counsel Lamin J. Darboe, representing the second to seventh accused persons, did not oppose the application. He cited the circumstances surrounding last week’s incident involving the State Counsel and noted that another counsel should be properly briefed before proceedings continue.
Justice Jaiteh subsequently granted the application and adjourned the matter to May 18, 2026, for mention.
Counsel A.M. Yusouf represented the State, while Counsel K. Sanyang appeared for the first accused person. Counsel Lamin J. Darboe represented the second to seventh accused persons.
