GDC leader gives D100,000 to windstorm victims

Leader of Gambia Democratic Congress Honorable Mamma Kandeh become the latest party leader to support the victims of the last week windstorm as he stood out in a pool of opposition politicians in the country to donate D100,000.00 to support them.

The politician support came a week after windstorm killed 10 people including a 5-year-old boy and displaced 1500 people. The donation was made through the country’s National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), a support widely welcomed by Gambians.

In a press release from the party secretariat read: “The leader of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) Honorable Mama Kandeh on Wednesday July 14, 2021 paid a surprise visit to the NDMA to render support to the people recently affected by windstorms.

“Hon. Kandeh was received by senior officials of the Agency led by the Deputy Executive Director Mr.Serign Modou Joof.  Honourable Kandeh told the officials that he was there to respond to the clarion call of the President of the Republic and as such donated a cash amount of D100,000.00”

“In a short statement Hon Kandeh expressed his greatest sympathy and solidarity to the affected people and those who lost their loved ones to the July 7, 2021 windstorm. He implored the public to support the NDMA in its work as he put it ‘it is only through a coordinated response that we can achieve the desired results.’”

He commended the continuous assessments and coordination of response and also encouraged all Gambians to stand by their fellow Gambians during their time of need.

For their part, the senior officials of the NDMA expressed an elevated level of respect for the effort put forward by Honorable Kandeh. They praised him for responding to the call of the President of the Republic H.E Adama Barrow. They assure him that the money will certainly reach the needed beneficiaries and on time. They officially called on other Gambians philanthropists to follow Honorable Kandeh’s footsteps.
