The newly elected secretary general and leader of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) assured of his party’s viable and strong institutions that would be built with the view to strengthening democratic process in the country without which nothing would be possible.

The theme for the press conference was: “Reviving the PPP to serve The Gambia better”.

Muhamadou Musa Njie alias Papa Njie made this assurance on Thursday 17th January,   2019 during the press conference with Journalists at PPP’s new head office located at Latrikunda German.

Njie assured informed journalists of more detailed socio-economic development program that would be presented in due course with a strong emphasis on women, youth and the environment.

According to Njie, PPP is at crossroads adding that the country also is at crossroads. Thus, the timing could not have been more precious to pay a fitting tribute to the founders of the country’s Independence and Freedom.

“As the country is embarking on the tedious and sensitive process of National Reconciliation, Social cohesion and Harmony, it may be helpful to seriously consider the renaming of some streets, monuments, parks and ferries to the country’s founding fathers,” PPP leader suggested.

He catalogue those founding fathers like: Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara, Pierre Njie, Sheriff Mustapha Dibba, Garba Jahumpa, Nfamara Wassa Touray, A.B Njie, Assan Musa Camara, Sheriff Ceesay, Edward Francis Small and among others.

Njie registered his gratitude and sincere thanks to all those who contributed immensely towards the success of the party’s Elective Congress thus, sending special thanks to  Kebba Jallow and those in Diaspora for their financial support.

According to the new PPP leader, his Party’s Congress started with the visit to all the 53 Constituencies in the country by a team of PPP executive members headed by Kebba Jallow and Hon. B.B. Darboe.

He explained to the media personnel how his Party’s Congress was conducted, which he said was witnessed by IEC and the representatives from the contesting candidates.

As always he said, PPP need the past as a foundation to build their future after keeping a low profile for over twenty-two years, adding that they will reflect on the old PPP for good.

New PPP leader revealed that the Party is now ready to blend the past achievements with the present experience to build a Political Party that has strong core values of Social inclusiveness, Meritocracy, Patriotism, Transparency and held accountable to its citizens at all times.

Kebba Jallow, the executive member of the PPP refuted the claim that there is tension within PPP Camp, adding that even the letter circulating within the social media was not emanated from Alhajie Yahya Ceesay or B.B. Darboe.

“Even the said letter bears no signature neither endorsed by Alhajie Yahya Ceesay or B.B. Darboe and we saluted them (Darboe and Ceesay) for the concern they have for PPP especially during the hard times,” Mr. Jallow informed journalists.

Duta Kamaso called on Gambians to see PPP as their own political party therefore, emphasizing that the party will continue with its original slogan which is: “TESITO”.
