Political analyst speaks on more parties’ alliance with NPP

A political analyst has shed light on circumstances surrounding some people and parties endorsing President Adama Barrow in his quest for re-election in the upcoming December 4 poll.

Ibrahim Sallah in an interview with The Voice newspaper said “these political parties aligning themselves with the ruling party have analysed the whole political situation and have placed their bets on the President. As they are convinced that he will win (the election) but they have also not factored the possibility that he might as well lose.”

Meanwhile, since the announcement of qualified presidential aspirants for the upcoming presidential election just a day after the nomination, the number of disqualified presidential aspirants that have endorsed the candidacy of President Adama Barrow or joining him for the upcoming presidential election is alarming.

As at 8th November, eight political parties have so far endorsed the ruling party and have showed and expressed their support and approval of the president and his policies.

However, the political analyst Sallah stated that “giving the political history in Africa incumbents’ in-charge of State machinery with so much resource at their disposal hardly loses elections.” Having said that, he noted “we have also had cases where they have lost out to their rivals and the last election in the Gambia is a case in point,”

Meanwhile, six political parties made it through as announced by the IEC and will be taking part in the December poll.

Commenting on this issue of alliances, Adama Touray, a resident of Bundung and a businessman, said some of these so called Political Aspirants knew all along that they would not make it, “but they were waiting for an opportune moment to align themselves with the ruling party of Adama Barrow.”

He went further revealed that, “all they wants is favours, they wants appointments and some of them are looking for an opportunity to recoup their lost and they are selfish that’s all.”

Fatou Badjie, a resident of Serrekunda, said “it is up to them.  If they felt that the president has a chance and decided to throw their weights behind him for the interest of peace and development, it is good’.  All we want is peace so we will be able to go about our businesses’.

Fifteen Presidential Aspirants have been disqualified for the upcoming election scheduled for 4th December.
