Immigration Day Medal Awards commemorated

The Gambia Immigration Department on Friday commemorated gathered at its Headquarters in Banjul to commemorate the Immigration Day Medal Awards and as well used the occasion to  awarded the retired Director Generals and Commissioners.

Speaking at the ceremony held, Seedy Mutarr Touray, Director General of the Gambia Immigration Department gave a brief background of the day saying it was initiated by GID ;leadership, “though with benevolent support of the immigration core and senior management teams.”

According to him, among the awardees, there are some who run the most successful projects and arrange the most active service delivery initiatives and activities.

He thanked them for their support in promoting the development of the immigration department and upbringing the young officers in preparing them for the future with a faithful mind and open heart.

“It is worthwhile to accept the great lengths that our former DGs and commissioners went to promote the sharing of unity, oneness and collaboration among the various security outfits, partners and stakeholders within and outside the country. They were able to attain this by accomplishing their core mandate and duties with great distinction and in a poised manner. You all have served with distinction and honor which you should be proud of,” he appraised them.

Also, the DG of GID thanked President Adama Barrow and Minister of interior for the enormous support they rendered to the Gambia Immigration Department mandate implementation effort.

Ebrima Mboob, Chief Commissioner Admin, said three decades on, the GID continues to uphold and fulfill its statutory mandate in the realm of consistency and progress.

“The GID under the stewardship of the competent leader and brother Seedy Motary Touray is set to honor some of these retired and serving colleagues to their outstanding contributions that brought the GID this far,” he said.

Meanwhile Mr. Tankara representative of the Interior Minister said: “as we commemorate Immigration Day, my Ministry stands in solidarity with the GID to renew our commitment to duty and collective national call.”

“And to be reminded of our mandate as the guiding principle of our existence and functions, Gambia Immigration Department does not only remember the past but also honored and valued those that served in the past,” he said.

Momodou Nai Ceesay, also a former Director General of the Gambia Immigration Department thanked the Gambia Immigration Department.
