Dankunku gets solar power after 300 years of darkness

 Residents of Niamina Dankunku are now celebrating and enjoying the new installed solar power in the community after three centuries of been without any electricity in the settlement.

The illumination and installation of the solar power system was sponsored by the Dankunku Maribantang Development Association (DAMDA), who also donated items like beds, bed sheets, and facemasks, wheel chairs among other items ranging at a tune of D500,000.00.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Alkali Alhagie Kebba Mboge and Imam Alhagie Saidykhan praised the Dankunku Maribantang Development Association (DAMDA) for this unprecedented achievement in the   history of Dankunku village.

“Dankunku been among the oldest villages in the country has never experience such a facility like this kind of streets lights. Therefore we elders appreciated, acknowledged and prayed for the village youths for their immense contribution in improving the livelihood,” he said

According to him, Dankunku is among the oldest historical villages in Central River Region (CRR), but has never endowed with lighting systems in their village, “but today, I am proud to say this project spearheaded by Dankunku Maribantang Development Association (DAMDA) whose members are all born citizen of Dankunku village has made tremendous impact to their village.”

He advised DAMDA to show more commitment, cooperation, and hard-work towards bringing more development to their village, while advised them not to allow anything to distract them in their development initiatives.

“This was a big achievement for the community of Dankunku and is unprecedented in the history of our village,” Imam Alhagie Almami Saidykhan said.

For his part, Secretary General DAMDA, lamin Fatty thanked the Almighty Allah and the elders of Dankunku for their prayers for the youths of Dankunku.

Mr. Fatty said this was among their dreams that have come true, thanked for the cooperation, unity among the DAMDA both in The Gambia and abroad. He added that DAMDA has been yearning for this kind of development for a longtime, but with prayers, now, Dankunku is blessed to have (162) streets lights polls.

Also speaking at inauguration was Sherifo Mboge, President of DAMDA, thanked the Almighty Allah and members of the association for bringing the project into reality for the community of Dankunku. He noted that the primary objective of the project is to bring unity, cooperation, development and more projects and programs that are beneficial to people of Dankunku village.

Mr. Mboge used the opportunity to advise the community of Dankunku to ensure the sustainability of this streetlights project.
