Buba Gagigo, a reporter with Kerr Fatou, has been reported to have been assaulted by a staff of the State House while covering President Adama Barrow’s voter registration in Banjul yesterday (Tuesday).

The alleged attacker Modou E. Njie is believed to be a photographer at the presidency. Reason to what led to the incident has not been confirmed

“It is sad to inform you that one Modou E. Njie identified as a photographer at State House this morning (yesterday) allegedly physically assaulted Kerr Fatou’s reporter, Buba Gagigo.

“The incident happened at the McCarthy Square in Banjul while Buba was covering President Barrow’s presence to obtain a voter’s card. The matter is currently at the police headquarters in Banjul,” the online newspaper Kerr Fatou reported.

Meanwhile, Buba Gagigo, told The Voice that: “when he (President Adama Barrow) was registered already, he was supposed to speak to the journalists. So, I rushed with my mic (microphone) to interview him. During the interview there were so many people there including journalists and some others were not even journalists. So, I stood we interviewed the president (Adama Barrow).

“After the interview a man confronted me whom I recognized to be Modou E Njie. He said I was standing in front of him when he was taking photos, I said I didn’t notice that because there were so many people there. But he insisted that I did it intentionally. That’s where we stooped.

“I went further to interview the IEC chairman (and) immediately I finished that interview he came and attacked me from nowhere, he knocked me continuously until other journalists came to separate us. Some police officers were there, and they came and took us to the police station,” he added.
