Chinese Ambassador Briefs Media on Chinas 2021 Two Session

Chinese ambassador to The Gambia Ma Jianchun on Wednesday briefed the media on the recently concluded China’s 2021 Two Sessions, celebrated under theme promoting comprehensive socio economic development towards greater prosperity, held at the Chinese Embassy in Bijilo.

Speaking at the conference, Ambassador Ma Jianchun said: The Two Session refers to the yearly plenary meetings of the National People’s Congress and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference which are the top legislature and political advisory body respectively. Adding that, the two sessions recently held in Beijing Is China’s most important annual political gatherings.

Ambassador Ma Jianchun also highlighted review of Chinas achievements of the past years. Indicating China’s achievements as the biggest economy to register positive growth and domestic product growths of 2.3 percent despite the Covid-19 ravaged year.

According to him, foreign policy investment expanded by 6.2 percent year on year to around 150 billion US dollars, and a total of 11.86million new urban jobs were created in the whole year. Adding that such progress was translated into tangible improvement of the people’s livelihoods, particularly that of the poor.

“China attained a complete victory in the fight against poverty, meeting the poverty eradication target set in the United Nations 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.”

The Ambassador went further to share some of the plans and proposals for future development on the two sessions in the years ahead. This includes the adoption of some key documents that layout targets and roadmap for China development in the short and long term.

He went on saying that; the 14th five-year plan period which is from 2021 to 2025, China will pursue innovation driven development with research and development spending increasing by over 7 percent annually. Adding that China will promote green development and reduce energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP to 13.5 percent and 18 percent respectively.

“China will continue its efforts in creating a robust domestic market, pursue opening-up at a higher level, and work with international partners to accelerate the building of an open world economy,” he added.

However, the ambassador stated that the two sessions also address some legal matters including its foreign policy and how African countries like Gambia can benefit from the relationship. The Chinese diplomat said: “To tackle the 21st century global issues, China proposed building a community with a shared future for an improved world, peace and development.”
