UTG student urges youth to emulate Honorable Haliffa Sallah

Haruna Jallow, a mathematics and computer science student at the University of The Gambia (UTG) has urged the nation’s youths to emulate Honorable Halifa Salla, secretary general for the People’s Democratic Organization for Independent and Socialism (PDOIS).

He described him as the most important national assets in The Gambia.

“Honorable Halifa Sallah, National Assembly member for Serekunda East Constituency is one of the most important national assets The Gambia has at her disposal,” he posted on his face book page.

Jallow who claimed of not a member of PDOIS added: “He has characters that are worth emulating, especially the youths in the political field; he is consistent, sincere and patriotic. His wisdom and knowledge are unquestionable and should be utilized.”

Speaking to The Voice further on this statement, Jallow said Gambian young people should emulate Serekunda East NAM, noting that he has all the ideas that Gambian want to ensure the country is develop as expected.

“He has ideas that are unmatched and unique, if taking advantage by Gambians, especially those at the governing system will have far-reaching effects in the near future, Jallow also a rural development activist said.”

He said Gambian youth should emulate this lawmaker owing to his patriotic features such consistency, sincerity and truthfully in all his doing as a citizen.

Mr. Jallow argued that The Gambia is facing some issues all due to lack of sincerity and patriotism among citizens, especially those in the governing system.

“Such individuals should be given opportunity even if not as head of state (President) but in try daily governance of our country,” Jallow stated.

Halifa Sallah was part of the founding fathers of the ‘Red Star’, commonly known as the People’s Movement for Independence against Neo-Colonialism and Capitalism (PMINCC), Sallah began to espouse social democracy, believing that for a nation to realize its political and social freedoms, the masses have to, first, be free from external and internal oppression and domination, and second, be educated to become masters of state and society.

For thirty years, Honorable Sallah was popular with the educated few, but failed massively to win the support of the masses, because they never understood his politics.”

The Honorable co-founded PDOIS in 1986, and was elected as its secretary-general in 1987. He contested elections for the House of Representative in 1987 and 1992, and was an opposition to former president Yahya Jammeh’s regime.

He stood unsuccessfully for the National Assembly in 1997, but was elected in 2002, serving until 2007. During that time, he also served as Minority Leader.

Honorable Sallah has also served in the Pan- African Parliament, and was the National Alliance for Democracy and Development (NADD)’s candidate for president in the 2006 presidential election, coming third with 6% of the vote.

He served as a spokesman and advisor to President Adama Barrow during the 2016 presidential election campaign until March 2017.
