This act is unconstitutional and unacceptable… ought to follow legal procedure until than maintain what you, found!, the interim committee has no mandate by the constitution or any piece of legislation of the union
– The interim committee tenure of office is three(3) months, to take us to Congress or AGM. You had overstayed for one year. Who extended your term ?”
After the dissolved Gambia Music Union, GAMU last year which resulted to setting up five-member steering committee was appointed to oversee its affairs within three months.
The Committee were to review and draft a new constitution before the end of the three months.
After the three months period, elections will take place to determine the official executive of the GAMU.
Apparently dissatisfied with setup’s lack of progress, delegates opted to dissolve Jaliba Kuyateh’s tenure and constituted an interim body now headed by Gibril Bala-Gaye who is elected to serve as President of the Music Union , Ali Baba Ace Cham as Secretary General , Pa Modou Sarr, Ensa Colley, alias Worldvibe General & Lizzy as executive members.
However last the committee has hold a press briefing to inform the general public about their level of preparation ahead of the Congress proper.
However, outgoing executive public relations officer Muhammed Summareh has slammed the Committee for improper conduct which is against the constitution.

Below his statement reads…
Outgoing MUSIGAM Executive Public Relations officer and EXCO is closely watching the activities of the current interim committee , which is legal mandated by NCAC to;
a)take the membership of MUSIGAM to Congress or AGM
b) Review the current constitution
c) facilitate amendment of the constitution in Congress ; and
d) serve for three months in office
We will react against any act or attempt over exercise that’s unconstitutional. It has came to our knowledge, you had discarded the legal and official Logo of the Union and replaced it with your illegal logo.
Who extended your term?
– In your press briefing yesterday on the 7th December 2020;…. made mentioned drafting a new constitution for MUSIGAM. ” Drafting a new constitution with National character and invite all members for the validation of your new constitution on the 16th December 2020″ attempt is in violation of Article 18 of the current constitution. Which states;” Congress subject this constitution to amendment (s) only when it is deemed fitting and such motions shall be considered by ( 2/3) majority. Any amendment (s) shall be included into the constitution upon approval of two third majorities of members present at Congress and have voting rights.

The committee has no legal mandate, authority and powers to draft a new constitution but to respect and abide by all provisions of the current MUSIGAM constitution any deviation is illegal and will be unacceptable.

Furthermore; Pamodou the spokesman highlighted that the interim committee will self-fund Musigam congress after they had rejected NCAC D50,000 disbursement for AGM and remaining of D200,000 to be handed over to newly elected Executive but in which they expecting the full package prior to Congress.

Finally, we’re urging the interim leadership to refrain from engaging in any unconstitutional and unethical act that’ll instigate or destabilise the existing unite and harmony among the membership and its partners or that’ll Jeopardise the peaceful transition but to stay and stick to limitations and execute your functions in accordance with your terms of reference and the constitution in order to avoid chaos and unnecessary dispute and confrontations.

In responding to the justification statement during the press briefing that” New constitution with national character ” this quotation is an insult to the integrity of the outgoing Committee and its membership and literally attempting to undermine, and buried the decade of hardship, sacrifices and efforts taken by the outgoing Executives bringing Gambian music to this juncture, remember MUSIGAM is Legally Registered in The Gambia and the International Music Federation.
It has national and International characters. Protecting Gambian and non Gambian Musicians Nationally and Internationally. All trying to question the merit and to delegitimise people’s Constitution. If you want to bury the past there will be no better future.
