Malang Fatty, award winning UK based Gambian music producer has urged Gambian upcoming artistes and producers not to rely fully on the music for financial income at an upcoming stage.
Fatty, who is the chief executive officer of Gsc records based in UK Post this write up in The Gambia Music union Facebook page recently.

“One of my biggest advise to my fellow upcoming artists, producers is to get a job.
Don’t rely fully on the music for financial income at an upcoming stage. Get a side hustle. You can say there are no jobs in Gambia but kaba girl is doing her thing. Big Rozay is in the market. Killa Ace is buying and selling etc.
Get a side grind. Don’t think this thing is gonna go Boom the next day. It takes time in many cases. When I was starting I did anything from watchman, selling fish, selling Ice block etc etc lol and I am still doing day to day jobs.
A side grind helps you focus on your talent rather than the money which is critical at an upcoming stage.
It helps you support building your repertoire which is very important to set your foundation as a musician.
It will also put respect on your grind cause you won’t be going around begging for studio time all the time.
It could also help you afford small promo fees here and there and also maintain your online presence with buying data and credit here and there.
Living completely on music money as an upcoming artist is not always a good idea.
Be humble and get your hands dirty while you grow up. Don’t think after two songs only you need a car and you can’t be a carpenter on the side or you can’t be a part time mechanic anymore. There is a long long way to go after two songs.
It can be disappointing when your family is waiting for you. Your dad is depending on you and you are waiting for two shows every year.
