Hon Jatta disagrees to reopening of Mosques, Churches

The National Assembly Member for Wuli West has disagreed to any attempt maeke to reopen religious places like Mosque and Churches.

The Gambia has recorded 24 cases with 9 recoveries and 1 death since the virus emerged in the country in March 2020, and the country has been in State of Public Emergency.

Seedia Jatta who was speaking during the National Assembly extraordinary session on possible extension of the country’s Coronavirus State of Public Emergency, saying “I am comfortable to pray to Allah in my house, and Allah (GOD) said precisely what I’m doing that prevention is better than cure and it is mention in the Quran.”

“If we open the mosque and say physical distance who are you to stop from going to the mosque if the mosque is full, we should think about things objectively,” he added.

He added that “to worship is survive but if you die you cannot worship, save yourself to keep your life in other to worship don’t help yourself to die in other to worship, let us live all this petty talk aside.”

In a little distance voice from the former, Sainey Touray NAM for Jarra East said “the restriction has lots of casualty one of them has to do with our religion. For about a month now the mosques and churches are closed and deserted due to the restriction.

“Ferry terminal are allowed to be congested either by design or by default I want to suggest that our religion should be considered and in doing that I can tell you it will serve as a very good measure,” he said.

“I see no reason while the mosques are close and the Markets are left open. People spend more time in the markets than in the mosques. If hand washing materials are provided at the mosque people can pray because people have short period to spend inside the mosque,” he added.
