The President of Gambia transport union has stated that his union is only waiting on final border discussion results in Senegal this time involving only ministers of transportation from both the Gambia and Senegal.

Omar Ceesay speaking to The Voice in an exclusive interview said: “we received a call from the PS at the transport ministry after they returned from Senegal on border mediation assuring us that both countries are committed to observe the ECOWAS protocol of free movement of people and goods.”

“And last Sunday the minister of transport has travelled to Senegal to meet with his counterpart on final border discussions. So, we are only waiting on whatever information we might receive now against end of this week. And if the Senegalese transport union still denies our buses to enter their country then we will also stop all their commercial vehicles from entering our country,” he said.

According to him, GTSC is currently offering a single morning bus transportation service to Senegal adding which has being on-going even before the denial of buses to enter Senegal started taking place by the Senegalese transport union, saying “as at now only one bus transportation service to Senegal is being offered by GTSC and the Senegalese vehicles are entering our country in numbers that is because we are only waiting for a final discussion result currently going between the two transport ministers of Senegal and the Gambia.”

If the Senegalese happens to stop our commercial vehicles enter their country after any agreement by both governments to respect ECOWAS protocol, we will close all borders entries to stop their vehicles from entering the Gambia, he said.

The current border discussions between the Gambia transport union and its Senegalese counterpart is seen as second of its kind this time involving only ministers of transportation of both countries after a delegations of Gambia government ministers, the Gambia-Senegalo permanent secretariat including Senegalese ambassador met with the government of Senegal 19 February 2020 to resolve the border problem between two unions.
