Nema P2RS project gives over 100 agricultural equipment to farmers in four regions

Nema P2RS Project has given more than hundred agricultural materials to farmers in four regions that aims to addressing farmers plights and help them increase farming products in Gambia.

The equipment includes 94 Shine Hoes and 100 Sickles to farmers in north bank, upper river, central river region north and south.

Speaking at the ceremony, The Regional Director for Central River Region South, Famara Trawally said the project has been helping the department of agriculture in two key intervention that is capacity building and provision of inputs.

“P2RS in its support came with what we called conversation agriculture which means doing agriculture but still you are conserving land and water”, he added.

He explained that, they did series of training such as extension worker training, Farmers training and practical the conservation agriculture in all the four Region.

He added: “the project has been supplying inputs, training, a lot of monitoring and evaluation from the Director Region”.

He further said, the project also promotes ‘Findi’, adding that it is a resilient crop.

“The project also provides a lot of Findi and milling machines to the farmers of the various Regions”, he said.

Dr. Saikou Sanyang, Director General for the Department of Agriculture, said the farmers first complained was implementations, noting that these farm implements will assist them a lot.

He pointed out that, their primary purpose of existence is to ensure there is food self-sufficient noting that farmers are their main focus.

He commended the P2RS component for their support, proper coordination and implementation of the P2RS activities in the Regions.
