Top Brass of Ministries attending Training on ‘Safety of Migration’

High government officials from various ministries are attending three-day training on safety of migration at Senegambia hotel in Kololi.

The program is being organized by the International Organization for Migration-which focus mainly on message development on irregular migration.

In her opening remark Funiko Nagano, IOM chief of mission said the program aims at providing protection assistance and solution to migration.

“It aims to provide protection, direct assistance and durable solution for migrants across the centre Mediterranean route. We at IOM believe that migration is inevitable and necessary,” she said.

According to her, migrations of all categories are not a new phenomenon, but the increasing number of migrants, particular irregular migrants around the world.

Our first priories must be to save lives, protect the rights of migrants and prevent them from undertaking irregular migration in the first place she said.

Representing the Minister of Trade, Industry and Regional Integration, Mamadi Dampha, described the training as very importance saying it will help the trainees with requisite   knowledge.

The training is being funded by UK through the department for International Development and collaboration with Gambia government.
