Village Head of Kundang Hails Gov’t for empowering Gambians

The village head of Kundang in the Central River Region has hailed the Barrow-led government for empowering Gambians.

Sambou Cessay made the remark during in an interview with The Voice during a consultation meeting at Kudang villagers and members of the CRC and NCCE.

“In the history of The Gambia this first time we are seeing Gambians participating in the drafting of their own Constitution which is something we need to commend for that bold step there are taking,” he said.

He called on his community to be part of the process adding that any nation building it is the citizen who should lead the process thus this process is the foundation for any nation.

Alhaji Basara Ceesay described the process as a welcome idea for the community of Kudang while promising that they (Kudang community) will not left behind in the process.

 

He added: “What you people explained to us here as far as Constitutional building process is concern were all understood and we are ready to welcome the CRC big team on the process here in Kudang.”

He urged the people of Kudang not to play with their nationality adding citizens’ nationality is his/her nationality so they should not allow anybody to destroy their nationality because of politics.

According to him, the Constitutional consultation process is not about politics but it is about consulting Gambians to have better Constitution for the all especially for our future leaders.

Sainey Kurang expressed his gratitude to Gambia Government through CRC and NCCE for consulting them about the reviewing of the 1997 Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia.

Kurang said it is gratifying to know that Government under President Adama Barrow is the first Government to consult Gambians about the drafting of the Constitution of Republic of The Gambia not in the regimes of Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara and Yahya Jammeh.
