‘Seerifs’ to pay Homage to Magfus Hydara in Gambia

A renowned program at the Gambia Radio Television and Services which gives air space for the narration of the history of Sheikh Sheikhna Magfus Hydara, a great marabou is to be honored on November 17, at Tallinding Buffer zone.

The program which is done by Alh Sarjo Barrow, a local news presenter at GRTS and co- host by a renowned griot call Alhagie Mbye.

In a press conference held by a group called“Seeriff” and various Islamic sects in the country made the announcement, as they praised the state broadcaster for the tribute paid to their beloved grandfather.

“The entire West Africa is invited and anywhere a seeriff is, he also is highly invited to come and grace the occasion. This is not we the seeriffs event, it is yours, because Islam means peace,” the officials said.

They said that they can’t give out money but can offer prayer for the country, saying their tribute is to be prayed.

However, they also said that no one has assigned them to organize such an event saying “no one assigns us to organize… neither the government nor the president.’’

The organizers further commended the GRTS and the journalism fraternity in the country for a well job done and what they are doing.

The journalism fraternity was described as the mouth piece of the humanity, as they said journalists are those who clear the doubts of the public.

“We call on all and sundry to come in their numbers and grace this occasion because the event is yours not only us. We are all in unison belong to this event,” they concluded.
