No Ruling Party in the Gambia-Ex-NIA Director

Abdoulie Kujabi, former director general of the defunct National Intelligence Agency has said that there is ‘no ruling party in the Gambia’ saying what the country has is ‘majority party members in Parliament’.

“Anytime the President Adama Barrow declares  that he belongs to a political party,  the National Assembly will impeach  him, because  no party is ruling this country  and  the president was elected as independent candidate”, he said.

Mr. Kujabi, yesterday led the Foni Ajamat foundation comprising of eleven (11) groups with over 50,000 members in Foni to Amadou Omar Jallow’s home to introduce the foundation to the People Progressive Party executive.

The group affirmed their support to the party, despite the foundation is non-political.

Meanwhile, Mr Kujabi also called on the government to unite the country and stop what he said ‘sacking natives of Foni in the pretence that they were close associate of former President Yahya Jammeh’.

He added: “I was part of those who help Yahya Jammeh to come to power, but I am also among the people who suffered under him.”

Two of my brothers were killed and it was my aunt who gave birth to his mother.

Despite all this when his mother died he called me to tell me that the corpse would be coming and that I should take care of the rest”, Kujabi recalled.

He continued: “I told him now is the time you have realized that we are family. He also told me if he wants to come back even the devils cannot stop him from coming. But I told him if he had the power he would not have left the country at the first place, because I know him very well.”

On Former President Jawara Return

He said he was the one who spearheaded the return of former president Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara to the Gambia.

According to him, when he contacted former President Jawara for his return, he was surprised and he told Kujabi, he was the first person to request for him to come adding that it was the time he asked President Jawara to send his sons to come and see for themselves before he comes.

“I took upon myself to go to Kanilai and call Jawara and passed the phone to Jammeh to speak to him and they spoke for about an hour. I was the one who went to London to escort him home”, Kujabi recalled.
