Banky Njie has been elected new President of the Bijilo Rotary Club during the charter and induction night of the Rotary club on Friday.

It was attended by presidents of o
ther Rotary clubs and guests who came to witness the induction of 23 other members into the Bijilo Rotary Club.
Mr. Njie said Bijilo Rotary Club was chartered on 11th January 2018, saying barely nine months into its existence the club has registered tremendous achievements in supporting communities within their area and other organizations.
He said they are committed to achieving their fundamental objectives despite being among the youngest clubs in the district.
He also expressed optimism to do more for communities in the coming years. He commented on some of their achievements, which among is the sight-box.
He stated further that the Club is still working with Rotarian President Angela Williams from the Rotary Club of Chester Riverside in UK and a sight-box Ambassador par-excellence to bring more sight-boxes to The Gambia.
“We identified two beneficiary institutions to work with namely; The Gambia organisation for Visually Impaired in Kanifing and a new organization in Brikama area. The lifestyle and living conditions of the visually impaired children and youths in the above mentioned institutions were very low,” he stressed.
Over the past years, he explained, Bijilo Rotary Club has donated essential medicament, medical books and hospital gears to support health facilities.
He said they also partnered with Rotary Club of Banbury to administer and monitor the construction of classrooms at the Prospects School in Mariama Kunda. A school that he said their mother club had previous similar engagement with.
Among his targets is to close the gender gap in rural areas, which, he said is vital for meeting the challenges of improving food and nutrition security.
Pierre Walter Chery also underscored the significant role that the club has played to improve the living conditions of some communities within a short period of time.
He reiterated their achievements, among which the sight-box is that became very popular in The Gambia overnight.
Rtn. Assistant Governor Minyan Jobe spoke on the importance of the ceremony, while urging the newly inducted members to redouble their commitment in supporting the club to achieve its desire goals.
