GRA Domestic Tax Boss On Importance Of Laws

Mr. Essa Jallow Deputy Commissioner General and head of domestic tax at the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), made it categorically clear to the general public, especially taxpayers that every law is of paramount importance regardless of whether it is a tax law or any other law, saying as resident of this country, there is a need to respect all laws of the country.

Mr. Jallow made this comments, during official opening of a recent tax seminar organized by GRA for students of tertiary institutions, held at MDI.

The seminar aimed among others to bring various students of tertiary institutions and sensitize them about Revenue laws that GRA administered under their purview.

According to head of domestic tax at GRA, the purpose of the seminar was  to talk to the participants about the revenue laws that GRA is administering are quiet important in ensuring  that every citizen respect those obligation.

He said respecting those obligations means they are contributing to national development, as a result you will be provided the amenities you needs as citizen.

According to Mr. Jallow GRA staff will continue to engage the participants on all the tax laws that GRA Administered and as to what they do at GRA in term of ensuring that those laws are effectively administered.

He said the GRA is also expecting from taxpayer by way of compliance with the objectives of providing them with all the necessary information needed so as to have them tax compliance.

He added that the seminar was part of GRA tax indication and sensitization program meant to reach out to crucial target group including tertiary institution like the MDI.

Therefore, the organization of this seminar is by no means a coincide,  but part of the delivery services system of  GRA. It is considered to be essential in fulfilling our mandate to the resident of this country, Mr. Jallow stated.

For her part, the Governor of Upper River Region Fatou Touray Jammeh, made and observation that without tax payment, there will be no development, hence the need for people to know that tax payment has been in existing since colonial era.

She affirmed that the tax collected by the GRA, is plough back to the grass root in the form of development programs and projects gear toward empowering the local communities.

The URR Governor therefore, spoke about the need for people to respect revenue laws and ensure timely payment to enhance national development.
