UDP Lawmakers Denies Alleged Presidential Bribery

United Democratic Party (UDP) lawmakers flatly denied and refute allegations that they were receiving constituency allowances from President Adama Barrow.

The current dominated members of the National Assembly were reacting to the said allegations made on Saturday 6th October 2018, through a face book posting made by their fellow lawmaker Sanna Jawara, representing Upper Fulladu West, claiming President Barrow has been giving lawmakers D10, 000.

This allegation drew a lot of criticisms from critics across the country, especially from UDP supporters. However, unformed face book postings alleged among others that the following NAMs received the cited bribery from President Adama Barrow, thought the mentioned NAMs vehemently denied the allegations made against them.

They are Billay G.Tunkara NAM for Kantora, Fatoumatta Jawara NAM for Talliding, Saikou Marong NAM for Latrikunda Sabiji, Saikouba Jarju NAM for Busumbala and Alagie Jawara NAM for Lower Badibou were among the people alleged on the face book to have received the bribery sum from President Barrow.

Denial from the NAMs

The cited NAMs reacted to the allegation with strong denial on their individual face book posting and including Billay G. Tunkara National Assembly Member for Kantora, who said on his Facebook: “I want to make it clear to each and everyone of you that, I didn’t receive any bribe from the President. People should be very careful of such allegations without any evidence or prove to show. I left for Sandu since on Friday and I returned last night. Surprisingly I show my name posted on Facebook,”

“Gambians should be careful of such allegations. More especially when it comes to the content of bribery allegation. To bribe members in relation to what to do or what not to do for the President”, the Kantora NAM seems to have clear his name in the allegation.

Saikou Marong National Assembly Member for Latrikunda Sabiji, also said in his Facebook: “The allegation against me over social media that I have accepted or agreed to accept monthly allowance of D10, 000 from the president is unfounded. I want to assure all my supporters and well wishers that, I am not a corrupt person and will never be corrupted. I humbly call on all Gambians to continue defending the interest of our country first before any thing else. I will continue to be humbled and respectful servant for all. UDP for ever, Gambia for ever! no one will succeed In bringing me down I am who I Am”.

For Alagie Jawara National Assembly Member for Lower Baddibou, said the allegation is malicious and untrue. “I have taken an oath to serve Gambia without fear or favor so why should I betray that oath, I am not greedy of money before I became a member of parliament I have establish my self as a standard business man going to Dubai, China buying goods with over D15 million so am not in the parliament to enrich my self, I am there to serve my people interest”, he said.
