Two employees of QCell Gambia Company Limited were on Monday dragged before the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court over the alleged theft of D16,002,147.52 belonging to the company.
Francis Sanyang and Demba Bajinka appeared before Magistrate F.J. Camara to answer to the charges.
ASP Barrow and Cadet Inspector L. Mendy appeared for the Inspector General of Police and charged the two accused persons with two counts, including felony, contrary to Section 341, and stealing by servant, contrary to Section 233 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025.
According to the particulars of the first count, the accused persons allegedly conspired with each other on or about 25 June 2026 at Kairaba Avenue in the Kanifing Municipality, with the intention of committing a felony by stealing.
The second count alleges that the accused persons, on 25 June 2026 at Kairaba Avenue and other locations within the Kanifing Municipality, being employees of QCell Gambia Company Limited, stole D16,002,147.52, said to be the property of the company.
The charges were read and explained to the accused persons in the languages they opted to speak. They indicated that they understood the charges and pleaded not guilty.
Following their pleas, Prosecutor Barrow applied for an adjournment to enable the prosecution to secure its witnesses.
He did not oppose bail, informing the court that both accused persons had previously been granted police bail.
In her ruling, Magistrate Camara granted the accused persons bail in the sum of D16 million.
Alternatively, each accused person is required to provide two responsible Gambian sureties above the age of 30.
The sureties are required to deposit valid national identity cards or passports with the court and swear to affidavits of means.
The case was adjourned to 15th October 2026 for the prosecution to call its first witness.
