The Gambia Tourism Board (GTBoard), in collaboration with Gambia Tours, on Friday welcomed the luxury expedition cruise ship SH Diana to the Banjul Sea Port, with 138 passengers on board.
The vessel arrived in The Gambia as part of its West African cruise itinerary, offering passengers an opportunity to experience the country’s tourism attractions, culture and hospitality.
The arrival of the SH Diana is part of The Gambia’s efforts to attract international cruise vessels and strengthen its position as a destination for cruise tourism.
Operated by Swan Hellenic, the SH Diana is a luxury expedition cruise ship designed to combine high-end accommodation with expedition-style travel to destinations around the world.
The vessel was initially registered under the Panamanian flag when it was delivered in March 2023 before being transferred to the Liberian registry in February 2024.
Following its arrival in Banjul on Friday morning, passengers were expected to visit some of the country’s tourism sites and experience aspects of Gambian culture and traditions.
The ship departed Banjul at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
The arrival of the SH Diana adds to the growing number of international cruise vessels calling at The Gambia, creating opportunities for tourism operators, tour guides, transport providers, artisans and other businesses to benefit from the expanding cruise tourism sector.
The GTBoard, in collaboration with stakeholders in the tourism industry, continues to promote The Gambia as an attractive destination for international visitors, particularly cruise passengers seeking cultural, historical and nature-based experiences.
