Three young men from Pirang Village have been remanded at Mile II Central Prison after pleading “not guilty” to a charge of obstructing narcotics officers in the execution of their duties.
The accused persons: Seedou Sonko, Hadim Sonko and Ebrima Gibba, appeared before Magistrate K.B. Sambou of Brikama Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 15 October 2026.
They are charged with obstructing narcotics officers, contrary to Section 70(4)(a) of the Drug Control Act 2003.
Narcotics Control Assistant Superintendent L.K. Bojang appeared for the Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG), alongside S. Camara. The accused persons were not represented by legal counsel.
According to the particulars of the charge, the three allegedly obstructed narcotics officers by fighting them and using weapons against them at Pirang Village in the West Coast Region on 14 October 2026.
When the charge was read to them in English and interpreted into a language they understood, all three pleaded not guilty.
Following their pleas, NCAS Bojang applied for an adjournment and opposed granting bail for the accused persons.
He told the court that one of the officers allegedly obstructed during the incident, identified as Lamin Ndure, had sustained a broken tooth and was admitted at hospital.
Magistrate Sambou granted the prosecution’s application and adjourned the case to 6th November, 2026. The three accused persons were ordered to remain in custody at Mile II Central Prison.
