Hamat N.K. Bah, the Minister for Lands, Local Government and Religious Affairs has warned politicians seeking presidency to avoid instigating violence in The Gambia.
Addressing a gathering during the ongoing Meet-the-People-Tour in Manduar Village on Wednesday, the minister said some of the candidates contesting the 2026 presidential elections fully understood that they have no opportunity to win the election and were busy making allegations to blame their electoral defeat on others.
“The wrestling competition that is coming. There are wrestlers who are not confident in delivering victory and they are going around to make allegations. No one can fool the youth of this country anymore. So, these contestants must know that they can’t destabilize the peace and stability of the country,” he remarked. “Gambians have embraced democracy and they will not allow anyone to sabotage that achievement,” Bah added.
Bah, who is also the leader of National Reconciliation Party (NRP) says Barrow administration championed unprecedented democratic value that no other country in Africa enjoys, mentioning that during political campaigns, the government provides state-funded security to all presidential aspirants, a gesture, the minister stated happens nowhere on the continent.
Hon. Bah points out that politics of deception and flimsy excuses can’t work for anyone. He says the law is protective for every citizen as dictated by democratic values of the country, urging contestants to jealously guard the peace and stability of the country.
He went on to stress that all Gambians had a responsibility to protect and guard the nation’s democracy. “Gambians have tested peace, stability, democracy, development and prosperity. Nobody can bring them into violence,” Hon. Bah emphasized.
He called on citizens to vote for President Adama Barrow in the December election for the continuation of development in the country, pointing out that the president has good intentions for the country and its citizens.
