The Attorney General’s Chambers and Ministry of Justice has begun reviewing the Coroner’s Inquest Report on the death of Omar Badjie, following its receipt from the Office of the Chief Justice, Judicial sources revealed.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, the chambers confirmed that the report, which examined circumstances surrounding Badjie’s death, had been formally transmitted for legal consideration and action.
Omar Badjie died in September 2025 after an encounter with law enforcement officers in Mandinari, a case that has since generated significant public concern.
As part of the review process, the Ministry has requested the Inspector General of Police to submit the complete case file to enable a thorough legal assessment of the findings and recommendations contained in the report.
The Chambers acknowledged the public interest in the matter, stating that the Coroner’s recommendations including those relating to the possible prosecution of implicated police officers would be carefully examined. It added that where the evidence warranted, appropriate legal action would be taken without hesitation.
The public has been urged to remain calm and allow the legal process to take its course, with assurances that the review will be conducted diligently and in line with the law.
The Attorney General’s Chambers reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights and dignity of all Gambians, noting that further updates would be provided as developments unfold.
