A Bakau resident has been fined and ordered to compensate his victim after pleading guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.
Batch Mbye appeared before Magistrate Awa Manneh on a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm, contrary to Section 196 of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025. Officer CB Cherno Baba Jallow prosecuted him on behalf of the Inspector General of Police.
The prosecution told the court that the incident occurred on December 8, 2025, at Bakau Cape Point in the Kanifing Municipality. Mbye and the complainant, Musa Ngallan, were previously friends before a confrontation arose, during which Mbye struck Ngallan on the head, causing bodily harm.
The matter was reported to the police, and Ngallan received medical treatment at Kanifing General Hospital. A medical report dated December 30, 2025, signed by Dr. Ansumana B. Sanyang, along with photographs of the injuries sustained, was tendered and admitted into evidence.
After considering the plea and the facts of the case, Magistrate Manneh sentenced Mbye to a fine of D2,000 and ordered him to pay D5,000 as compensation to the victim, totaling D7,000. In default of payment, the court ruled that he would serve six months’ imprisonment.
